Lucy Maud Montgomery (1874-1942) was a Canadian novelist, short story writer, poet, and one of the most beloved authors in children's and women's literature. Born on Prince Edward Island, she was raised largely by her maternal grandparents after her mother's death and her father's departure for western Canada.
