Carl Gustav Jung (1875-1961) was a visionary Swiss psychiatrist, psychoanalyst, and the founder of analytical psychology. Initially a close collaborator and designated successor of Sigmund Freud, Jung eventually broke away to develop his own highly influential psychological theories. He pioneered profound concepts that have since become foundational to modern psychology and culture, including the collective unconscious, archetypes, psychological complexes, and the personality traits of extraversion and introversion. His vast body of work profoundly bridges the gap between clinical psychiatry, anthropology, Eastern philosophy, and Western esotericism.
