He is an elder in the Presbyterian Church in America and served as its moderator (1991). He is author of Suffer the Little Children (1990), A Journey to Wholeness (2015), God, Satan, Job & Friends (2016), and Every Precious Stone (2017). He and his wife Linda live in Kirkwood, Missouri.
