Full colour facsimile reprint of the original First World War, War Office war diary of the Headquarters, Branches and Services Commander Royal Artillery, 47th Division, covering January 1916 to December 1916 across 1,229 pages. It names 24 places across 33 dated entries. The diary is large enough to have been published in two parts, of which this is one.

Alongside the daily entries the volume carries one list of honours and awards, five casualty and personnel returns, 159 reports, narratives and plans, 58 Operation Orders, 34 defence schemes, one appendix and four maps. Among the papers are: Honours and awards for Week Ending 17/6/16; 47th Divisional Artillery Changes in nominal roll of officers; First Army Intelligence Summary numbered 507 to 560 (41 of them); First Army Intelligence Summary No- numbered 531 to 533 (3 of them); Summary of Intelligence First Army 1st to 15th June 1916; Summary of Intelligence First Army 16th to 30th June 1916.

The diary opens at Chateau Des Pres on 1 January 1916. 1916 is spent at Chateau De La Haie, Barlin, Hoograaf Farm, Les Brebis and Albert. It closes at Hoograaf Farm on 30 December 1916. Chateau De La Haie is where it spent longest, 68 days, including a single unbroken stay of 68 and it came back to Barlin three separate times.

Trench and battlefield features named in the diary include Chateau De La Haie, Hoograaf Farm, Hoograaf Farm-Belgium and Chateau Des Pres.
